Suspense
Is a feeling of uncertainty and anxiety about the outcome of certain actions, most often referring to an audience's perceptions in a dramatic work. However suspense is not exclusive to fiction.
Throughout this piece there are many techniques used to create suspense; such as sound and editing. One of the ways in which suspense is created through the sound, is that leading up to the when the shark is actually revealed there is a lot of slow tension building music; however, the music does not stay the same throughout the piece, it gradually speeds up as we get closer to actually seeing the shark for the first time.
The way that editing is used as a technique to build tension is that when the camera is below water, everything is shown in slow motion and the music also slows down; whereas when the camera is above water every thing is shown normally and there is a lack of tension building music.
