Analysis Of Sweeny Todd

Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

The genre of Sweeny Todd is a gripping Thriller. It includes Thriller, Blood, Mystery and a little Romance. The plot of the film is a barber with revenge on his mind, which is set in the 19th century. This film encouraged and interested me to write about it, as it is a musical. Musical Thriller's are not common so this one really took me by surprise. The majority of the script is all singing. However, there are short scenes throughout the movie, which have dialogue without music.

There's a slow start towards the film, where Sweeny Todd had to win the people's custom to give them a shave to show them his skill'd and techniques. After he (Johnny Depp) done this, the film started to fall into place, and you knew stuff was about to start happening. Furthermore, although the film is a musical, tension is still created. I personally feel this as the film leaves you feeling uncomfortable and leaves you on the edge on your seat throughout the film. This is what makes the film such a good Thriller.
