Introduction to Live Type

Mehdi and Myself (Lashmi) got out a camera in workshop and filmed ourselves giving an introduction to how to use Live Type and how to save and export it. This video that we have created together is our example of how to use LiveType.

Rough Cut

Evaluation/ Analysis of Pre-lim film

Starts with a production made from Live Type with a green background and the Directors names 'Temi and Mehdi'. Then shows a shot of me walking towards the door and then shows an over shoulder shot of me opening the door from a high angle point of view. The door slams however, this noise was take from Soundtrack Pro. The music goes from piano to action kind of music, however, quickly changes back to piano. There's a shot of me walking through the corridor after coming through the door and then walking towards a person i am about to start speaking to. From Emily's point, we use an over the shoulder shot of her talking to me, this works well as she is taller then me. Whereas, i am shorter then Emily we use a point of view shot as I'm talking to Emily. The scenes are repeated as our conversation goes on. We use a long shot of we walking towards her and that turns to a medium shot to a close up of me. we then finish the sequence of Emily looking at my phone as if I'm about to show her something, and the shot used for this is a two shot. the piano music is constantly on throughout mine and Emily's discussion. This is good as you can see that the conversation we had was real.

Just To clear our name change

Our original name that we had for our film was 'A Perfect world', however, chose to change it as we wanted it to relate to the subject of a killer teacher more. We also changed it because originally when we started planning months ago, we had a blackboard in the storyboard with the subject of what the teacher was going to be teaching, which said 'A Perfect World', but as said before, we wantd to relate it back to the topic. We then changed it to 'Psycho teacher' however, this title gave away too much of the story. There is no point in making a Thriller, which is supposed to build up so much tension to the finale, but then the name of the film gies it away. Temi then decided to call it 'Imperfections'. I personally thought this was a perfect title, as the meaning of it is good and it does not gie too much of the plot away. Therefore, our concluding name for our film is in fact 'Imperfections'.

Final Edit Screen Grab

This is a screen grab of basically the final edit. I didn't personally get to add the touch ups of the titles and soundtack, as i was in lesson. However, Temi from my group was happy to take on this responsibility. This screen grab is of pretty much our final edit. We had the titles and the actaul edit that were finished. All that needed to be added in was soundtrack. I am very happy with watching the result of our film. It came out better then expected, as the scenes were put together so well.  Furthermore, i chose to use this screen grab as you can see the titles, an over the shoulder shot of emily, who was following me and the timeline.

How To Make Your Film Back and White

I have shown you a screen grab of how to make our film black and white. We thought it would be a good idea to have some of our video in black and white and some in colour, as this is not common
I firstly go into Effects and then i click on video filters, it will then take me to the option image control and then i click on the effect Desaturate. This is what makes the film black an white.

Screen grab of editing on Soundtrack Pro

This is a screen grab of editing our Soundtrack. For our music in our film, we have used a very high pitched violin to create tension and suspense. We also added in sound effects like a scream to make the ending of the film better. The scream that has been edited in to the film represents my scream for my life.

Props, Costume, Hair and Make Up

For my props, i was responsible for making sure i had my college ID card, phone and handbag. These things were important for my character to have, as students normally carry these items around. For my costumer, i was all blacked out with grey Ugg boots and a tie. The tie made me look like i was young and it was clear for the audience to acknowledge that i was a student, whether i was a school or college student.    This was a good prop to use and i enjoyed wearing my old school tie.

For my Make up, i had to have suttle make up to show my youth and innocence, as a student. Also, i didn't want to look overdone, as this can often spoil a movie. My hair was naturaly wavey and there was no need to straighten it as it was going to get messed up anyways, when filming the killing scene.

Furthermore, as Emily had to have her hood up i gave her a hair band to tie her fringe into her hood, so that it didn't fall out whilst she was following me. Having a hair band was an advantage for us as we were able to tie up her short hair. Emily also wore darkish clothes. We wanted to disguise her to show that she is not a teacher, even though she is. This is the reason why we gave her normal trainers, a coat and jeans. As a killer teacher wouldn't kill in her work suit, as this may leave too much evidence, which is why Emily's disguise was convenient.

The Difference between Thriller and Horror: In my Opinion

The difference between Thriller and Horror is that a Thriller is more into making the movie full of suspense and it commonly based on a Psychological story. This helps to create sympathy for the victim and makes you nervous for the fate of the characters on screen. This also helps to put you on 'the edge of your seat' and makes you feel uncomfortable, especially if you're watching it in a dark cinema.  In addition, Thriller's pick on one specific victim the majority of the time. Whereas, in Horror's anyone can be the victim.

Furthermore, a Horror wants to make the audience fear for their own personal safety, for example scare them into avoiding mirrors, having nightmares, being scared of the dark and hiding in their blankets, (yes i have experienced this). Also, there are killings, blood and gore throughout the movie. Whereas, Thrillers mainly save the bloody scenes for the finale of the film.

Analysis Of Sweeny Todd

Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

The genre of Sweeny Todd is a gripping Thriller. It includes Thriller, Blood, Mystery and a little Romance. The plot of the film is a barber with revenge on his mind, which is set in the 19th century. This film encouraged and interested me to write about it, as it is a musical. Musical Thriller's are not common so this one really took me by surprise. The majority of the script is all singing. However, there are short scenes throughout the movie, which have dialogue without music.

There's a slow start towards the film, where Sweeny Todd had to win the people's custom to give them a shave to show them his skill'd and techniques. After he (Johnny Depp) done this, the film started to fall into place, and you knew stuff was about to start happening. Furthermore, although the film is a musical, tension is still created. I personally feel this as the film leaves you feeling uncomfortable and leaves you on the edge on your seat throughout the film. This is what makes the film such a good Thriller.

My Audience Feed back of the Rough Cut

I went around college both showing students and teachers our Thriller film. I wanted to get positive and negative feed back, so that i could work on what needed to be improved and what could change. Most of the viewers said that are opening needed to have added titles and a better opening sequence. They said make the build up of the killing scene longer, so that when it happens, there is more life in it. Also, that this helps the thriller altogether and creates more tension. Furthermore, they said that the ending was good as you know the killer is still loose and it ends on a cliff hanger. I though this was a good fact that was pointed out. They said the part when i was attacked was good as you could see a fight scene. There was no fake blood used as we didn't want it too look over done, however, some of the audience said how it would have been good to use.

Screen Grab of Practice Titles

I was practicing titles for our Thriller movie. Originally, the group wants a black background and the titles in perhaps red writing. However, i wanted to play around with fonts, background and colours, so i thought i would have a greater learning process if i was to do this. Below the titles in the screen grab, you can see the times line. I put all of them at a equal speed to see the titles and how they would appear on screen.

Practising shoot of the Draw Scene

Before we shot our original draw scene in our Thriller, we done a practice one before in order to get an idea of what it will look like, and how good it will look. I took pictures of hands being rubbed in red paint, so that we could have a feel of playing with our 'fake blood', which was actually red paint. As our film has not got any bloody scenes of me dying, i wanted to add some in the draw scene, so we used paint to get a feel of it, and also to enjoy our filming experience to it's full potential.

Screen Grabs Of Rough Cut Editing

Grab of the whole page being edited in Final Cut.

Grab of the time line in Final Cut.

As you can see above, i have shown screen grabs of our rough cut being edited. You can see that the clips on the time line have been seperated as they are three different scenes, that take place in our Thriller. We didn't want to get confused from where the scenes go, so we seperated them to know the order of the scenes. This makes it a lot easier to edit for me and my group.

These are three books i used for help on many of my blogs. I got good examples from them and they helped me understand definitions and things that i never knew before. Each of the books gave me a different perspective on media. It taught me more about camera angles, audiences and representation. These books are so precise as they go into so much detail, which is mainly why i enjoyed researching into them.

Representations and intertextuality

I looked under the contents in the books and read up a few pages on each of them. They were all very useful, which is why i put these books onto my blog.
